Utility Composites Corporation Makes Major Upgrades
Recent strategic growth and equipment acquisitions set the stage for significant production capability enhancements at Utility Composites Corporation (UCC), a subsidiary of Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, which produces various liners for Utility reefers, dry vans, and aerodynamic devices, including the USS-120A-4 side skirts and UAT2 Aerodynamic Tail.
UCC’s manufacturing plant in Piedras Negras, Mexico, recently received equipment assets purchased by Utility from ViaFlex and the company’s former Virginia facility. The acquired machinery includes five extruders, crossply equipment, and a large laminator. The new extruders will replace UCC’s current tooling and are twice the size of their predecessors, doubling previous output and capacity with cleaner and faster efficiency through five lines of equipment.
“Our new crossply equipment will also increase capacity by at least 40,000 pounds per day, or about 30-40% more than our previous crossply production,” UCC Plant Manager Luis Contreras said. “The new machinery enables us to use thicker fiberglass in its liners, speeding up production and resulting in products that are thicker, stronger, and more durable than before.”
