Swift: 50 Years Of Living The American Dream
America’s largest FTL carrier in midst of year long celebration
On January 28, 2016 at the Phoenix Convention Center, a special event was held to honor Jerry Moyes, founder of Swift Transportation. This was a beginning of a yearlong celebration of the Phoenix based company’s 50th anniversary. This event featured messages from U.S. Senator John McCain, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, and former NFL Quarterback Steve Young. In attendance was Moyes’ family, the Swift leadership team and several individuals who have had long standing relationships with Swift. Craig Bennett, Utility’s Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, and George Cravens, President of Utility Trailer Sales Company of Arizona, were privileged to be a part of the celebration.
“Utility has had a great business relationship with Mr. Moyes and Swift almost from the beginning,” said George Cravens. “We are honored to be part of this celebration to honor a man who is a fearless, serial entrepreneur and who has grown a business from a few trailers into the largest full-truck motor carrier in North America.”
“I’d like to congratulate Jerry for 50 years of success. He is truly a great example on how to do things right and his continuing leadership is invaluable to the industry,” added Craig Bennett. “We at Utility look forward to celebrating his and Swift’s success throughout this entire year.” Like many stories of the American Dream‚ Moyes, along with his father, brother and a business partner, began his business with humble beginnings, starting off by moving imported steel from Los Angeles to Phoenix and returning with cotton from Phoenix to Southern California. For the next 50 years, Moyes, who would eventually become the sole owner, continued to grow the company through acquisitions and expanding services into the rest of the continental United States, Canada and Mexico.
