Lightweight Brake Drum Becomng Standard Across All Utility Models
BANGING THE DRUM OF INNOVATION
Beginning with Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company’s 2026 product lines, all reefer, dry van, and flatbed models will feature the Trident® composite steel shell brake drum as a standard base specification.
The Trident® brake drum from Accuride reduces weight by 24 lbs per wheel end, totaling 96 lbs for a dual-axle trailer. This revolutionary advancement makes the brake drums significantly lighter than traditional cast iron alternatives, enabling fleets to maximize payloads and lower costs or trips.
“Our continuous testing programs, both in the field and in the lab, prove the Trident® to be the highest quality brake drum on the market,” Utility Trailer Chief of Sales Mark Glasgow said. “It comes as no surprise that the Trident® drum has already been an overwhelming success on our flatbeds, and I’m looking forward to seeing their impact across fleets of reefers and dry vans. While air-disc brakes are the gold standard when it comes to trailer braking, steel shell drums—specifically the Trident® drum—provide an excellent alternative without the added costs.”
“We are very excited to support all of Utility’s premium braking requirements across all their models,” Accuride Vice President of Sales Scott Neill said. “Utility has been an industry leader for 110 years. By including the Trident® drum as standard equipment on all models, Utility continues to demonstrate its commitment to advanced braking systems and innovative safety features in their products.”
