Glade Spring, Virginia Dry Van Plant Provides Meals to Medical Staff
Over the past year, one would regularly turn on the news to hear about the stress that health care workers were under as they cared for COVID-19 patients. Team members at Utility’s Glade Spring, VA plant asked what they could do to show them they cared.
“COVID-19 has hit close to home for many of us. It’s clear how much we need these wonderful people in our community,” said Sam Cassell, Plant Manager at Glade Spring. “We wanted to recognize and thank them. They said a simple meal was more than enough.” Glade Spring provided dinners from Chick-fil-A for 140 medical staff in the COVID-19 ward at Johnston Memorial Hospital Ballad Health in Abingdon, VA.
“As I speak with our medical community and listen to their pandemic stories, I hear their pleas to the community to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” added Mr. Cassell. “One medical professional in the COVID-19 ward told me, ‘If people could only see what we experience every day. Often we are the last person to hold the hand of someone’s loved one.’ Every time I think back to this conversation, I get choked up. COVID-19 does not discriminate. It doesn’t matter who you are, healthy or not. COVID-19 knows no boundaries.”
