Glade Spring, Virginia Plant Builds its 100,000th Dry Van
Whitaker Transportation purchases milestone trailer
Safety Champion Glade Spring recently achieved another manufacturing milestone, building its 100,000th dry van—a 4000D-X Composite® TBR. Utility dealer C.R.T.S., out of Raleigh, North Carolina sold the 4000D-X Composite TBR to Whitaker Transportation, a dry van fleet headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The tall bottom rail dry van which is part of the 4000D-X Composite series is equipped with Utility Side Skirts, Hendrickson® suspension, Hendrickson Tire Inflation System, and Bendix® Air Disc Brakes.
“I want to congratulate and thank each and every person at Glade Spring for this achievement,” said Paul Bennett, Chairman and CEO for Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. “Day in and day out, Glade Spring maintains their track record of excellence, and this is why customers keep coming back, and that is why the 4000D-X Composite continues to be the fastest selling trailer in our history.”
“I want to thank Whitaker Transportation for their continued trust in Utility,” said Sam Cassell, Utility’s Glade Spring Plant Manager. “For the past several years, they have been acquiring 100 to 150 dry vans a year. We are proud to be a part of their growing success and are delighted to make our 100,000th dry van theirs.”
The milestone trailer was presented to Whitaker Transportation at a celebratory event held on January 9th, 2019 at the Glade Spring facility. Members of the Bennett and Whitaker families were in attendance. Whitaker Transportation is owned by Charles D. (Doug) Whitaker, and they have been a customer of C.R.T.S. and Utility since 2004.
