Denney Transport creates driver recruiting initiative

“If only I had more drivers” may be six of the saddest words for a fleet owner to say or hear. These are six words that Denver-based Denney Transport, LTD refuses to say. Established in 1994 with one tractor and refrigerated van, Denney Transport has grown to a fleet of over 125 tractors and 170 refrigerated trailers. They’ve also added an additional terminal in Omaha, Nebraska.

Denney Transport is pro-active in finding more drivers. In fact, it is a daily, ongoing initiative that Utility became aware of at the ATA MC&E when Hal Bennett sat down and spoke with Mike Denney and his daughter Erica.

“I met with Mike and Erica and heard about their initiative to recruit drivers,” said Hal Bennett, President for Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. “Finding talent is an industry-wide challenge. It is having a negative impact on the economy, slowing down deliveries and leading to higher costs. I applaud their efforts to find and keep quality drivers.”

“The number one issue for every fleet today is a shortage of drivers,” said Erica Denney, Sales Representative for Denney Transport. “There are many reasons for the shortage, among them older drivers retiring and younger people not interested in driving as a career. We have a rockstar recruiter on our team who works hard to consistently bring in drivers. Driving is hard work, but it’s a great way of life. Our driver initiative offers an attractive pay package with excellent benefits, including satellite TV on our trucks.”

As part of the initiative, Denney Transport designed new trailer graphics, showcasing the American flag. “This is personal for my father. He started the company in 1994 when he bought his first tractor and trailer and grew it into a fleet of over 125 tractors and 170 refrigerated trailers that run coast to coast. He believes America is the land of opportunity and that there is no other country where he could have done this. He wants drivers to share in that opportunity and do well for themselves and their families. A lot of truck drivers are patriotic as well. Many are former military and they take pride in what they do. Our mission is to make sure every driver is taken care of, likes what they do and has every chance to succeed.”
